Dr Mabrouka Abuhmida is a Senior Lecturer in Computing and Mathematical Sciences within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science at the University of South Wales.

Why they deserved to win their category:

In addition to lecturing in STEM, Dr Mabrouka Abuhmida is an active Artificial Intelligence researcher. As the Research and Innovation Group Leader at the University of South Wales, she spearheads initiatives across Computer Science, Data Science, and AI. She also serves as the Course Leader for the university’s MSc and BSc AI courses. Her expertise includes Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, the Internet of Things, and Computational Thinking.

 

How does the individual, business or organisation further the STEM sector in Wales:

Empowering women in STEM is a passion of Mabrouka’s and she has been recognized for her efforts in this area. She has led successful collaborations between many students and local businesses to drive technology adoption. She is currently completing research on applying AI to Digital Healthcare Transformation and Cybersecurity.
