What does your company do?
Cardiff Metropolitan University is a business-orientated university focusing on the needs of industry, commerce, public and voluntary sector organisations. We are particularly proud of our track record of supporting small businesses, where our strong research and teaching base provide the platform for the development of a wide range of services relevant to many types of industries. The university can trace its history back to 1865, when the School of Art first opened in the Old Free Library in Cardiff. Since we developed into a university, we have remained rooted in Wales while providing practice-focused and professionally oriented education to students from around the globe.

Supporting the inaugural Wales STEM awards was a perfect fit for our aspirations to grow our engagement in this area.
What or who is exciting you in the STEM sector in Wales?
The most exciting element of the STEM sector in Wales is the opportunity it presents for business, the workforce and the education sector to come together for mutual benefit.
What do you think could be done to help the STEM sector in Wales?
Launched in 2018, our School of Technologies offers cutting-edge degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level and research opportunities in technology. We work closely with employers across the tech industry to carefully design courses that are industry-relevant and career-focused, and by engaging more widely with the STEM sector in Wales we could have an even greater impact through upskilling the workforce and providing specialist academic input into commercial opportunities.
